The Game Awards es la ceremonia de premios que da un merecido reconocimiento a los juegos. y como cada año, se otorga el premio al mejor videojuego del año en esta ocasión Baldur’s Gate 3 fue el gran ganador consiguiendo seis trofeos, incluido el de Juego del Año (GOTY). También obtuvo premios por Mejor apoyo comunitario, Mejor juego de rol, Mejor multijugador, Voz de los jugadores y Mejor interpretación (para el actor de Astarion Neil Newbon).
Alan Wake 2 y Baldur’s Gate 3 tuvieron la mayor cantidad de nominaciones, cada una con ocho nominaciones. Alan Wake 2 también se coronó en la ceremonia, consiguiendo tres trofeos a Mejor Narrativa, Mejor Dirección de Arte y Mejor Dirección de Juego.
La ceremonia estuvo llena de sorpresas, incluido el anuncio del próximo título de EA Originals, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU y Sega, revelan que están reiniciando franquicias retro como Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio y Shinobi.
